ugly people literary magazine is a vibrant community of writers and artists living outside the boring and beautiful. we believe that true beauty comes from the experience of living outside the norm, outside the mass produced image constructed by people, for people to fit into a box someone else made. It’s the voice of the underrepresented, the marginalized, the ignored. it’s the delicate and flawed voice of lived truth. it’s the voice of real people. ugly people.
our mission is not only to publish great, weird work, but also to create community, and give back to the communities that we come from. A portion of all sales goes towards a foundation that’s highlighted by the work published. we are committed to publishing lgbtqia+, bipoc, and disabled voices and hearing their stories.
meet the staff
hey! my name’s naomi garceau. i created ugly people literary magazine as a place to publish work from people like me. mainstream media is boring and safe and overwhelmingly oversaturated with the same types of people telling the same types of stories. i wanted to create a space for people to do something different. as a queer, transgender woman, i understand how important it is to have your voice heard and have set out to build a community of people who deserve to have their stories told.
